Grow Parents' Night

by Jolie Brent - March 28, 2009

Have you noticed some changes around our children’s wing? God is doing some amazing things in Gateway’s children’s ministry! One exciting event we just hosted was our first (of many!) parents’ night. Gateway’s parents were able to drop off their children in our Grow wing for a fun night of crafts and a Veggie Tales film while parents gathered in a transformed high school room for delicious dessert and meaningful sharing from several mentor couples who have “been there, done that!” The Padelfords opened up about teaching your children to serve, giving some poignant examples and sharing their philosophy of loving God and loving their kids. The Blairs gave insight into the importance of recreating together as a family and how this has grown them closer to each other and brought some special “God moments” into their lives. The Powells, surrounded by their daughters and husbands, described the ins and outs of family dinner, which has been a priority in their household as long as they can remember. Finally, Pastor Mark shared how he developed a bedtime tradition with his children of telling stories, both biblical and thematic, to instill values and character from a young age. The evening turned out to be a tremendous blessing to all—the mentor couples enjoyed sharing their experiences, and the families with younger children were able to bask in the glow of warm memories! If you were unable to attend, be sure to make it to the next Grow-hosted event for parents—we’d love to see you there!
