“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Romans 12:10 (NIV)
A chapter ends, a new book opens, the river of life keeps moving along. Yes, graduation is just around the corner. For many in our church, life will never be the same as some go away, leave the nest and fly off to college, the military service, an exciting career, or marriage. So, how do we respond as a fellowship? Make a big deal out of it all. To rejoice with those who are rejoicing is every bit as Christian as weeping with those suffering loss.
Many of the stories Jesus told revolve around a party. Many of the places Jesus went were feasts. God loves a banquet. He describes heaven as one long love feast with Him. So, if we are praying “Thy kingdom come,” perhaps we’re never closer than when we are at a party, cheering others on in life. We had an opportunity to do this on May 29th as we celebrated our graduating 12th graders at our Senior Banquet.
We also can be a part of kingdom living as we encourage our young brides and grooms in their new start, or by giving a word of encouragement to those who have chosen to protect our country through military service. A song we sometimes sing here at Gateway says, “The seasons of life come and go, but forever Your promises are true. I believe in your sovereignty; I believe You are watching over me. Through the seasons, I want to be close to You.” I believe this, and as a church, let us send our young adults off with encouragement and God’s blessing.
