Gateway Church: Top Ten List

by Mark Jappe - December 26, 2004

Watching the news at this time of year, you cannot help but hear everyone’s top ten list of everything.  Yet, no one has done a top ten list of events that happened at Gateway Church.  Filling this incredible void is your pastor.  Let us begin this daunting task.  computer.jpg

#10.  Website up and running!  Gateway members now have a window to the world, an instant way to communicate with each other, and an attractive tool to inform.

#9.  AWANA has continued to grow and Pastor Mark was selected to be the regional representative for the Rorheim Institute.  He was able to speak at two conferences as keynote speaker and he has also been asked to be camp pastor for Jr. High, 2005.

#8:  San Felipe Trip brings Gateway Builders and college students together for a wonderful weekend of painting, outreach and teaching children, becoming a bonding time for all.

#7.  College and Young Adult ministry, BREAK begins.  This new ministry at Gateway, lead by College Pastor Tedd Brent, is healthy, intense and connecting with our college aged students.

#6.  Justin Windham joins our staff, full time.  Everyday this young man displays the grace of Jesus Christ, grows as a communicator, and moves our fellowship forward.  missions.jpg

#5.  Eighteen church members take mission trip to Russia.  This was a huge fundraising effort as people collected over $45,000 and went half way around the world, doing a remarkable job leading a youth camp there.

#4.  Let It Rain, our fall giving commitment time yields incredible results, as nearly 500,000 has been given or committed over the next two and half years.  This collection enables us to see only a bright future for Gateway.

#3.  The year of engagements!  Many of our former youth group members and others decide that it is better to marry than to burn.  And some of the sweetest and most godly young adults have now made the commitment to be hitched in 2005.

#2.  Don Howell retires after 50 years of full time Christian service, ten of those being at Gateway.   Don says, “adieu”, finishing with a Singing Christmas Tree, Handel’s Messiah, and a Night of Praise.

#1 Story of the year 2004: New worship team takes over, combines our two services into one format, adding a freshness and new approach to leading us all closer to God.
